Samson and Delilah

Samson and Delilah
Bible Story

17 So he told her everything. “No razor has ever been used on my head,” he said, “because I have been a Nazirite dedicated to God from my mother’s womb. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as any other man.”

18 When Delilah saw that he had told her everything, she sent word to the rulers of the Philistines, “Come back once more; he has told me everything.” So the rulers of the Philistines returned with the silver in their hands. 19 After putting him to sleep on her lap, she called for someone to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him.[c] And his strength left him.

20 Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”

He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.

Samson and Rapunzel have a lot in common. They both have special powers in their hair that has come from above. Rapunzel got her special powers from the the magic drop of golden sunlight that fell from the Heavens. Samson tells Delilah his hair has special powers from how he has "been a Nazirite dedicated to God from [his] mother's womb." When their hair is cut off, their hair loses all its powers. We see Rapunzel lose her power from above when Flynn Rider cuts off her hair at the end of the movie and it turns brown. We also see this happen when Mother Gothel tries to cut off a stand of her hair at the beginning of the movie. Samson loses his power from God when someone shaves off "the seven braids of his hair." Samson says if his hair was cut off, he would "become as weak as any other man."

Mother Gothel and Rapunzel are very similar to the father and son in this story. Rapunzel decided to leave her tower to see the floating lights against her Mother Gothel's will. When she leaves she realizes life is exactly how Mother Gothel explained it, filled with frightening things and people you cannot trust. She finds this out when Rapunzel is tricked by the Stabbington brothers into believing that Flynn leaves her with the crown. Rapunzel does not know what to do and does not believe Mother Gothel will take her back after she betrayed her. To her surprise, Mother Gothel does not think twice about letting her come back to the tower. Rapunzel is a lot like the Prodigal Son. The Prodigal Son sets off for a distant country with his share of the estate. After he spent his money, there was a famine and he had nowhere to get food. He decided to go home and admit to his father that he had sinned in hopes of his father taking him back in. To his surprise as well, his father is delighted that he has come home and takes him back in without hesitation.

The Prodigal Son

The Prodigal Son
Bible Story

11 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.

13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
