Rapunzel's Parents as God

Rapunzel's parents model many of the same characteristics as God. First of all, they are both the rulers of a kingdom. God is the ruler and maintains control as the Lord of Heaven and Earth just as it says in Chronicles 29:12. Much like this, Rapunzel's parents are the rulers of the kingdom of Corona, a kingdom that is much like Heaven in that we see a lot of celebration here, like when the lost princess comes home. It is also a place where everyone is forgiven for their sins and given a chance to live freely. For example, the thieves from the Snuggly Duckling were forgiven for their crimes when they entered the city. This kingdom seems to be the place where dreams come true, just as Heaven will be the place where our dreams will come true and we will live freely as well. Another characteristic they have in common is their everlasting love. Rapunzel's parents have an everlasting love for their daughter just as God has an everlasting love for us. Rapunzel's parents will not give up on finding her because they love her so much. They want to lead her back home to where she belongs. To try to capture her attention and guide her home, they lift lanterns into the sky every year on her birthday because, as it says in John 1:5, "the light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it." (NIV). We can compare this to how God always tries to direct us on the right path so that we can go home to Heaven. All we have to do is listen to him just as                                                     Rapunzel had to listen to the floating lights to realize                                                         where her life was taking her. In the song "In Christ                                                           Alone" by Keith Getty, it says, "In Christ alone my hope is                                                 found, He is my light, my strength, my song." This tells us                                                 that God is our light when we may be lost on our path. We                                                 can have hope because of this light. From this, we can see                                                 that the lanterns Rapunzel's parents lift into the sky are the                                                 light to guide her, just as God is our light. The lanterns are                                                 the hope and assurance that she needs to keep dreaming     just as God is for us. "God can be found in the parents, who without fail, continue to shine their light in the hopes of bringing their lost child back home."

In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light my strength my song

The light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it.

John 1:5 (NIV)

When Rapunzel finally gets to see the floating lanterns that she’s been dreaming of her entire life, she sings the song “I See the Light” with Flynn Rider. The lyrics say “And at last I see the light. And it’s like the fog has lifted. And at last I see the light. And it’s like the sky is new. And it’s warm, and real, and bright, and the world has somehow shifted. All at once, everything is different, now that I see you.” This shows the power of the love of Christ and the effect it can have on our lives. When we start following God and listening to what he wants for us, the world seems brand new. The floating lights act as God because when Rapunzel followed the lights, her life changed and everything seemed brand new as well.
